Our History

Hallgarten Druitt is one of the UK’s great traditional wine merchants with a history dating back to the creation of The House of Hallgarten in 1933. While much has changed both in the company and the wine trade since this time, the company has retained a passion for quality and indeed the fine Rhone producers Andre Brunel and Mont Olivet have been with the company throughout its life.

In 1972 the company became part of the German based WIV group. Although retaining autonomy in its decision making, this provides a solid backing and more power in sourcing products from around the world

With the company going from strength to strength, Hallgarten relocated to a purpose built office and bonded warehouse in 1989, well positioned for access to the UK motorway network.

1996 was the year that Michael Druitt Vintners entered the fold, adding to the company a specialised service selling to hotels and restaurants in the London area, thus becoming one of the leading companies selling to the independent trade in the U.K.

After dramatic increases in business for over ten years the decision was made in 2008 to bring Hallgarten and Michael Druitt together as Hallgarten Druitt, offering the same services but with an increased focus afforded by the one combined identity.
